Query Bug when using "link existing entry" in App via external invitation link

Your Setup:

  • SeaTable Cloud

Your Problem:

  • I build a universal app with a page of type ‘web-form’ where my speakers input a workshop they held that gets added to the workshop table.
  • Inside the web-form there is an input field for a “link to another table”, where my speakers look for a school from the table “Schools” where they presented their workshop
  • the speakers use my app via an external invitation link. They are NOT part of my SeaTable Team (I have 10 speakers and that would be too expensive for me. Funding in the school sector is not enough to build a larger SeaTable team)
  • as soon as the speakers input a search parameter into the “link to school table” input field there is a bug, where letters get deleted again and again while they are typing.
  • This does not happen for my SeaTable-Team-Members, who use the app, but only for users via external invitation.
  • Unfortunately I cannot add videos in this forum. I have a little 3 second clip of the issue. I hope it is clear enough

“External invitiation link”? So you mean your speakers are not members of your team and they got access to your app using an invite link (see below)?

Which browser do your users use? (Please have them try with Chrome/Edge.) Is one user affected or all?

No one can share videos in this forum  But you can convert your video to an animated gif and then post. (You can use Video to animated GIF converter for example.)

We have tried Chrome, Firefox and Safari on android, windows 10 and macOS. It happens for all users.

Unfortunately the error is not visible anymore in the gif. Lets try a dropbox link. Its very bad quality. I hope you can see the letters deleting themselves, while trying to add new ones. The same happens with backspace when deleting letters that they add themselves again. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kwfxc5vbr592udo1xolkg/sean-error-clip.mp4?rlkey=01m4mx1ypw6ih1cmzbthxty7f&st=nvbfghks&dl=0

Thank you for your help!!!

I couldn’t reproduce this issue after testing.

In theory, people invited via invitation and internal team members who use the app are treated in the same way.

Hi Leo,

thank you for replying! Hmm, thats too bad. We tried it on 5 different devices with 4 different accounts and 3 different browsers.

Just in case we are not talking about the same thing I am at attaching a screenshot of the selection panel in the webform page of the universal app where I am searching for a “contact” from a separate table in the same base to link to the “workshop” input I am creating.

Could it be, that the issue stems from the fact that our contact table has over 7000 entries with multiple columns, and multiple ‘link to other table’ columns and a whole lot of information, that causes this problem? It seems as if when I type a letter and the search begins and then I type another letter while the program is not finished searching yet, that when it finishes searching, it then deletes the letters I added later on.

And the problem does not happen on my own device when I am logged in with an account that is part of the team, while it does happen when I am logged in with a different account that is not part of the team.

I noticed the problem is worse when looking for names that are more often in the database. So it does seem to be connected to the search. And maybe (haven’t tested this enough) its worse with mobile data instead of a wlan connection at home.

A second, connected issue just crystalized itself, where on mobile devices the autocorrect is automatically applied and cannot be prohibited which is especially cumbersome when looking for names that are often autocorrected although correct.

This is likely to be the reason.

If it possible for you to send me an invitation link of the app via private message? This can help me check the issue.

Hi Daniel Pan.

Thank you for your interest in my problem. I will send you a link as soon as possible. I need to scramble lots of private information first. I’ll keep you updated.
