Failing to download images via REST-API for shared base

I am reading in a base shared with me. I can successfully dowwload table data (using JavaScript). Now, this table has associated images. I fail to download those with the AccessToken. But I cannot create an API-Token either.

What possibility do I have here? Do I really need an API-Token? I can see those images in the UI, so, they are accessible somehow with my authentication.

Using Python I will have the same problem - which is getting an API-Token for a shared base.
